Student Government Shares a (Belated) Valentine’s Celebration

Whether it’s cookies, pies, or pizza, we have learned one thing here at SC4—everyone loves free food! This was the inspiration behind last year’s Valentine’s Cookie Handout. Last year, Student Government ordered 250 cookies and ran out halfway across campus (much to the dismay of our friends over in the Welcome Center and the Health Sciences building).

This year, Student Government ramped up cookie production, making sure everyone on campus would have a cookie to enjoy.

However, plans changed when the campus closed on the Thursday before Valentine’s Day due to a blizzard. The Student Government team considered canceling the event but decided to reschedule for the following Thursday. After all, they’re just cookies. Why not still share them with the college? So, after pushing back their order for fresh cookies from Em’z Sweets, the (Belated) Valentine’s Cookie Handout was born!

Starting at noon, Student Government officers traveled across campus with their cookie wagon, delivering fresh cookies to students, faculty and staff.

Professor Gura’s class was especially excited to receive cookies while they were taking a quick break from their nursing studies.

“It was really cool to see someone smile after giving them a cookie. It really didn’t matter if it was Valentine’s Day or not. Turns out people just love cookies!” – Wesley Whetstone, Assistant Dean of Wellness and Student Activities.

At the end of the day, Student Government handed out 400 cookies to students, faculty and staff. After visiting all the buildings, they decorated the Health Sciences Building and College Center Lounges with extra cookies for students to grab later.

“I love that we can host events like this on campus. They are simple, and at the end of the day, everyone gets a cookie. Not a bad way to spend the day.” —Wesley Whetstone
