“The Color of Freedom” Comes to SC4 on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
SC4 is proud to welcome back our annual MLK Day production with New Beginnings Theatre. This year’s play, The Color of Freedom, written once again by Evangelist Debra McNair, promises to be our most ambitious yet. The performance will showcase singing, dancing and spoken word pieces, brought to life by a diverse cast that includes several SC4 students.
The play features historical characters and pivotal events in Black history—from the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s—offering audiences an immersive look at the people and moments that shaped Martin Luther King Jr.’s life. It all centers around the central question: What is the Color of Freedom?
The Color of Freedom is free and open to the public on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 19, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the SC4 Fine Arts Theatre. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and seating fills quickly, so be sure to arrive early and experience this powerful production.
